Ben Browning- ‘I Can’t Stay’
Cut Copy’s bassist Ben Browning’s new EP. I found my song for the summer and it’s only April. Who’d of thunk it?
This is still one of my favorite tanks.
I think one of the most challenging parts of starting a business is deciphering the advice of those around you. Everyone has something to say, and most of the time… it’s inconsistent with the next person. One minute you could read a book entirely endorsing a process, and the next read another entirely against it. The point being- everyone has an opinion, but looking into the source may tell how relevant it is to you or your business.
I think it’s very important to learn from those around you (especially those with experience and expertise in your category), but clearly there are mixed messages on the ways to properly run a business. At the end of the day, there are certain guidelines on good vs. bad business practices, but some of the best companies (and most successful) certainly didn’t follow any how-to manual. Sometimes they did just the opposite.
Mentors are a great resource and a beneficial wealth of knowledge, but what may have worked for someone to create a successful restaurant, may be entirely different than what it takes to run a profitable software company. Consider the source before you change your philosophy behind the topic you know best.

SBTRKT- Trials of the Past (feat. Sampha)
I haven’t had the butterflies from new music in months. This self-titled album is exactly what the doctor ordered.
I bought ‘SBTRKT’ (Aka: Subtract) on Monday and seriously cannot turn it off. Aaron Jerome uses ‘SBTRKT’ as a way to keep his personal identity away from his music. He never shows his face and wants people to judge the music for what it is- without the influence of his appearance or sociability. I give him a lot of respect for using his introverted demeanor to express himself creatively. At this point, I’m quite intrigued by both his music and his secrecy. Check it out.
I think the most frustrating part about being a Braves/Hawks/Falcons/UGA fan is the fact that we always have a team that is pretty good (could possibly beat any organization on any given day), but always find a way to completely blow it.
It’s one thing if you are a Royals or Browns fan. You expect to lose. And when that glorious day comes where you upset a decent team- it becomes a city wide celebration of drunken mediocracy. But here in Atlanta… your team has the potential to bring home a championship every game, and instead… they find a way to lose.
We are always the slight underdog when faced against the best, but can never really live up to the true “underdog” status. We live and breathe by staying a B+ team in any sport we play.
Yet, I still love this city. I’d take this over the arrogant Lakers or Yankees legacy any day of the week. One day, it will taste so much sweeter.
